ABOUT WAD

William Adams Design is a boutique interior architectural design studio with over 22 years of experience and 500+ completed projects across California. We specialize in high-end residential remodels including kitchens, bathrooms, whole home design, and interior design. We are known for our attention to detail, thoughtful process, and strong client relationships. This is a studio that takes design seriously.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We're looking for a motivated design student to join us in a hands-on internship role. This isn't a coffee-and-filing position — you'll work directly alongside the principal designer on real projects, gaining exposure to the full arc of residential interior design from concept through construction documentation.

Gain direct exposure to the professional residential design industry through William Adams’ active involvement with the NKBA Northern California Chapter (National Kitchen & Bath Association) including opportunities to build connections with respected industry professionals, vendors, and trade partners.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Assist with design research, material sourcing, and finish selections
  • Support drawing production in AutoCAD
  • Help prepare client presentation materials and project documentation
  • Assist with project tracking and procurement support in Studio Designer
  • Collaborate on day-to-day studio operations using Google Workspace
  • Attend site visits and vendor meetings as schedule allows

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Currently enrolled in an interior design, interior architecture, or architecture program
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD required; familiarity with Studio Designer a plus
  • Comfortable working in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive)
  • A keen eye for detail and genuine enthusiasm for residential design
  • Reliable, professional, and comfortable working in a small studio environment
  • Bay Area-based and available for in-studio days as needed
  • A working knowledge of AI tools and curiosity around how AI can improve design workflows, client communication, project management, and operational efficiency
  • Comfortable adapting to new systems, processes, and technologies in a fast-paced boutique studio environment with a proactive mindset

COMPENSATION

Paid hourly, commensurate with experience.

Location: Oakland/San Francisco Bay Area (Hybrid)

Type: Full-Time or Part-Time

With over 22 years of experience and 500+ completed projects, WAD is a nimble, design-forward practice with deep vendor relationships, discerning clients, and a reputation built on craft and process — not volume.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We're growing and looking for a junior designer who is ready to take on real responsibility in a fast-paced boutique environment. You'll work closely with the principal on active kitchen and bathroom projects — from initial concept through construction documentation — and play a direct role in how projects come to life.

Gain direct exposure to the professional residential design industry through William Adams’ active involvement with the NKBA Northern California Chapter (National Kitchen & Bath Association) including opportunities to build connections with respected industry professionals, vendors, and trade partners.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Produce construction documents and detailed drawings in AutoCAD
  • Assist in the selection and specification of finishes, fixtures, and materials
  • Manage project data, procurement tracking, and vendor coordination in Studio Designer
  • Support client presentations and project communication
  • Coordinate with contractors and trades on active projects
  • Maintain project files and team communication via Google Workspace

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 1–3 years of experience in interior design, interior architecture, or a closely related field
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD required
  • Experience with Studio Designer strongly preferred
  • Fluent in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail)
  • Residential project experience strongly preferred
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
  • Professional, polished communication skills — you'll interface with clients and vendors
  • Collaborative, low-ego, and comfortable in a small-team setting
  • Portfolio demonstrating both technical capability and design sensibility
  • A working knowledge of AI tools and curiosity around how AI can improve design workflows, client communication, project management, and operational efficiency
  • Comfortable adapting to new systems, processes, and technologies in a fast-paced boutique studio environment with a proactive mindset

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with experience. Please include your compensation expectations in your application.
